Ferry service proponents get a sinking feeling at the Transportation hearing

NYC Department of Transportation officials seem to have blown off the demands of Staten Islanders for more off-hour ferry service, at a hearing of the City Council’s Transportation Committee, according to this article in the Staten Island Advance. The fact that Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan didn’t show up for today’s hearing seems indicative of the official city administration response to the idea.

City Council Committee to discuss ferry service

Service as it stands now. GET THE RED OUT!

Nicholas Zvegintzov, chairman of the Ferry Riders Committee of the St. George Civic Association writes:

“The City Council Transportation Committee will take up the half-hour ferry schedule bill Friday June 28 at 1:00 p.m. (location to be announced).

This is very good news.  If not Friday it would have been postponed until September.

The Committee could move it to the full Council and the Council could vote on it in the summer.”

Note: the next meeting of the Ferry Riders Committee will be held at 60 Bay Street, July 18, 2013 at 7 p.m. All are welcome.
